Bringing Foot Care to You: What Our Mobile Home Visit Service Looks Like

Because everyone deserves access to proper foot care — wherever they call home

Getting to a clinic appointment sounds simple — until it isn't. For a significant number of people, leaving the house for a medical appointment is genuinely difficult. Whether it's due to mobility limitations, the challenges of navigating transportation with a health condition, recovery from surgery, or simply the reality of aging at home, the barrier between needing care and being able to get to it can feel insurmountable.

This is exactly why we offer mobile home visits at Sole Renewal. Nurse-led foot care shouldn't be a privilege reserved only for those who can travel to us. It should be available to anyone who needs it — including those who need it most.

What Is a Mobile Home Visit?

A mobile home visit is exactly what it sounds like: one of our foot care nurses comes to you. Equipped with everything needed to provide the same quality of clinical foot care delivered in our Oshawa clinic, your nurse arrives at your location, assesses your feet, and provides a full treatment — all without you needing to go anywhere.

The clinical standard of a home visit is identical to what you would receive in our clinic. The same health history review. The same thorough assessment of skin, nails, circulation, and sensation. The same professional instruments, properly sterilized and prepared. The same tailored care plan based on what your nurse finds.

And when we say "home," we mean it broadly. Home visits can take place at a private residence, a retirement home, a long-term care facility, or even a hospital room. Wherever you are, we will do our best to bring the care to you.

Who Is This Service For?

Our mobile home visit service is designed for anyone who finds it difficult or impossible to come to us. This includes — but is not limited to:

  • Older adults aging in place. Many seniors live independently at home but find travel to appointments increasingly challenging. Regular nurse-led foot care at home supports their independence and their health without requiring them to navigate those challenges.

  • People with mobility limitations. Arthritis, stroke recovery, neurological conditions, amputations, and other mobility challenges can make clinic visits genuinely difficult. A home visit removes that obstacle entirely.

  • Post-surgical patients. Recovery from surgery — particularly to the lower limbs, hips, or abdomen — often makes travel uncomfortable or inadvisable. A home visit allows foot care to continue without disruption to recovery.

  • People with complex or high-risk health conditions. For patients with advanced diabetes, lymphedema, significant wounds, or other conditions requiring careful, consistent monitoring, not allowing foot care to lapse during a period when clinic attendance is difficult can be genuinely important to their health outcomes.

  • Those for whom leaving home in winter is a safety concern. For some patients — particularly older adults or those with balance or mobility challenges — navigating icy walkways, parking lots, and winter conditions presents a real risk of falls. A home visit during the colder months removes that risk entirely.

  • Patients whose insurance requires in-home care. Some insurance providers — Green Shield being one — only cover foot care services provided in the home. If this applies to you, a home visit may not only be more convenient, but the right approach for your coverage. We can direct bill Green Shield and Veterans Affairs directly, and for all other insurance providers, we are happy to provide a detailed receipt for you to submit to your plan.

  • Family caregivers supporting a loved one at home. A home visit brings the care directly to both of you — reducing the logistical burden while ensuring your loved one receives the attention their feet need.

If you're reading this and thinking 'this sounds like it might be for someone I know' — it probably is. Please share this with them. Access to proper foot care changes health outcomes, and we want to reach the people who need it most.

What to Expect During a Home Visit

Our nurses are professional, respectful of your space, and experienced in adapting to different home environments. Here's what a typical home visit looks like:

  • Scheduling and preparation. When you book a home visit, our office team will confirm your address, discuss any specific access requirements, and let you know what to have ready. Generally, you'll want a comfortable chair at a height that allows your nurse to work comfortably, and a small clear space nearby. We will also ask about pets in the home and whether anyone smokes — we respectfully ask that no one smokes while our nurses are present in the home.

  • Arrival time. Please note that the scheduled appointment time is not always the exact time your nurse will arrive. We give a half-hour window before and after the appointment time to account for travel between visits and unexpected factors like weather or traffic, or a previous visit requiring more attention. We appreciate your patience and flexibility.

  • Arrival and health review. Your nurse arrives with all necessary equipment. They'll begin with a health history review and a thorough assessment of your feet, skin, circulation, and sensation.

  • Treatment. Your full foot care treatment is provided exactly as it would be in the clinic. Nails are trimmed and filed, calluses and thickened skin are addressed, skin is assessed and treated, and any concerns are noted and discussed with you.

  • Care plan and guidance. Before leaving, your nurse will walk you through any home care recommendations and advise on when they should return.

  • Cleanup. Your nurse handles all cleanup and clears waste. Your space is left exactly as they found it.

A Note on Foot Soaks During Home Visits

For infection control reasons, our nurses do not bring foot soak equipment with them on home visits. Because our nurses travel between multiple patients' homes, maintaining strict infection control is essential — and transporting basins between residences introduces a risk we are not willing to take.

If you would like a foot soak as part of your visit, and your nurse has assessed that it is clinically appropriate for you, you are welcome to provide your own basin. Your nurse will advise you on how to prepare it and will incorporate it into your treatment where safe to do so. If a foot soak is not clinically indicated for your situation, your nurse will explain why — and your care will be no less thorough as a result.

Is the Clinical Quality the Same as In-Clinic?

Yes — and this is something we want to be very clear about. The professional standard of care delivered during a home visit is identical to what you receive in our clinic. Our nurses bring sterilized, professional-grade instruments. They follow the same infection control protocols. They document the same way. They assess with the same clinical rigour.

A home visit is not a lesser service. It is the same nurse-led care, delivered where you are.

A Note on Our LTC, Retirement Home, and Hospital Programs

In addition to individual home visits, Sole Renewal holds several contracts within Durham to provide nurse-led foot care to residents at long-term care homes and retirement communities in the area. If your family member is a resident of one of the local facilities, they may already be receiving regular nurse-led foot care through our program.

We are also able to visit patients in hospital or hospice settings where appropriate. If you or a loved one is currently admitted and in need of foot care, please reach out to our office and we will do our best to accommodate.

Please contact our office for more information about any of these programs.

Care That Comes to You — Because You Shouldn't Have to Go Without.

No one should miss out on the foot care they need simply because getting to a clinic is difficult. If you or someone you love could benefit from a mobile home visit, we'd be glad to help.
